President Donald Trump claims E. Jean Carroll pulled a $5.6 million “bait-and-switch,” alleging she told the court she would keep his payout in a secure place and then moved it into a personal investment account, according to Trump’s court filings obtained by GWN.

In the newly filed paperwork, Trump’s crew says Carroll’s attorney represented that once the money was no longer under the court’s control, it might be positioned in an “interest-bearing account.” Trump is arguing that after Carroll acquired the funds, her legal crew later disclosed they have been being stored in a personal investment account tied to her retirement.

The president’s legal professionals say Carroll’s crew cited the S&P 500 to justify the choice, contending the stock market may expose Trump’s thousands and thousands to losses and go away the money at Carroll’s “whims,” GWN stories.
