Trump admin halts Minnesota child care funds over | Political News


Minnesota will stop receiving child care funds, the Department of Health and Human Services announced Tuesday. 

“We have frozen all child care payments to the state of Minnesota,” HHS Deputy Secretary Jim O’Neill wrote on the social platform X. “We have turned off the money spigot and we are finding the fraud,” he continued.

He cited right-winged Youtuber Nick Shirley’s viral video. Shirley alleged almost a dozen daycare facilities in Minnesota are receiving public funds but usually are not really offering any service. Vice President JD Vance and Elon Musk have also shared the video with the public.

Shirley also visited the Quality Learning Center but Ibrahim Ali, a manger there and whose mother and father own the power, told outlet KARE that Shirley’s video was recorded when the business was scheduled to be closed. The middle operates between 2 to 10 p.m., Ali added.

“There’s no fraud going on whatsoever,” Ali told KARE.

The video has 128 million views, according to Shirley’s posting of the video on X. The state’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families responded to the video shortly after.

“While we have questions about some of the methods used in the video, we do take the concerns that the video raises about fraud very seriously,” said Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families commissioner Tikki Brown, according to CBS News.

O’Neill said the state has “funneled millions of taxpayer dollars to fraudulent daycares across Minnesota” for the past decade

He also famous the division will require photograph evidence before sending any Administration for Children and Families funds to all 50 states. The division has also launched a hotline and e mail tackle at childcare.gov for customers to report fraud.
