Trump Deserves the Nobel Peace Prize – RedState | Political News

The Washington Post, even after proprietor Jeff Bezos’s shakeups, is something but a publication pleasant to Republicans or the Trump administration. But even members of the legacy media sometimes have to admit the apparent.

One of those is Washington Post Marc A. Thiessen, who on Thursday penned a piece making the case for President Trump being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. This is not a new notion; the concept’s been kicked around before. But the calls appear to be getting louder.

Not only does Donald Trump deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, but there has arguably never been an American president who deserved it more.

Four of his predecessors have gained the prize. Barack Obama gained seven months into his presidency primarily for not being George W. Bush — and even he said he didn’t deserve it. Woodrow Wilson gained for creating the League of Nations, which proved to be a feckless catastrophe that the United States never even joined. Theodore Roosevelt gained for ending a single battle, the Russo-Japanese War, which started with Japan’s 1904 assault on the Russian fleet in Manchuria (Japan later launched a full invasion of Manchuria in 1931, and then a shock assault on the U.S. in 1941). Jimmy Carter gained in 2002, more than twenty years after leaving the White House, for a lifetime of work in peacemaking, starting with the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt.

Barack Obama was, yes, given a Nobel Prize for present, which was a quite apparent pander. Probably the only president who actually gained the Peace Prize for truly, you already know, working for peace, was Theodore Roosevelt, who negotiated the end of the Russo-Japanese War.

By approach of distinction, Mr. Thiessen factors out President Trump’s accomplishments along these traces:

Contrast this with Trump’s file. In his first time period, Trump brokered not one, not two, not three, but 4 Arab-Israeli peace accords — the first such agreements in more than a quarter-century. He did it by rejecting the failed typical knowledge of the international coverage institution, which said that there could possibly be no separate peace without the Palestinians and that shifting the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem and confronting Iran’s aggression would inflame the area and put peace out of attain. Those strikes did the reverse. The Abraham Accords alone have been an achievement worthy of a Nobel Prize.

And, of course, the Peace Prize hasn’t meant all that a lot since they gave one to Yasser Arafat. But this may redeem it, to some extent, at least.

Now, it is unlikely President Trump’s identify will ring any bells in Oslo. And, truthfully, it is unlikely the president might be terribly disenchanted or stunned if Oslo forgoes giving him that honor that he so clearly deserves. Nobel or no Nobel, the President has completed what he has completed. He’s not negotiated the aforementioned Arab-Israeli peace agreements, but has also pushed peace agreements between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, between Thailand and Cambodia, between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and might effectively have prevented a conflict between two nuclear powers, India and Pakistan.

While not strictly talking a peaceable motion, the president’s destruction of Iran’s nuclear capability can only be seen as a internet constructive for world peace, as effectively.

The Nobel committee might still see match to ignore all this. But President Trump has completed these issues all the same. He is probably not a Nobel laureate, but that would not make him any less a peace president.
