President Donald Trump highlighted “American strength and power” in a speech at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., after extreme storms interrupted his Fourth of July celebrations.
“We are also reasserting the reality that American strength and power isn’t one thing to be ashamed of. It is one thing that we’re very, very proud of,” Trump said.
“This country has been the greatest force for peace and justice on earth in the last century. We defeated tyrants, demolished evil and saved freedom again and again and again.”
Earlier, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore delivered an Independence Day speech from Annapolis as Democratic counterprogramming.
Thousands braved the blistering heat in the nation’s capital to attend the festivities.
Attendees had been pressured to evacuate and search shelter in close by buildings due to extreme climate, with chaotic scenes as crowds had been pictured ready at security checkpoints to reenter the realm.
Trump also voiced his assist for the SAVE America Act, which might make it necessary for voters to show ID when casting ballots, and declared that “America is a nation of winners.”
“Americans won the West and built the modern world because America is a nation of winners. And today, our country is winning again, and we’re winning like never before,” he said.
Trump claimed that over 375,000 people confirmed up at the America 250 event forward of his tackle, including that 150,000 stayed despite the delay.
“They estimated they had 375,000 people before everybody had to leave, and they now have 150,000 people. It’s the craziest thing anyone’s ever seen,” Trump said.

Before the event, an official said the president will give a “historical speech” to honor America’s semiquincentennial.
