President Donald Trump unleashed a disjointed tirade on social media over the weekend, pressuring Attorney General Pam Bondi to take motion against his political adversaries.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump also asserted that he personally dismissed former Eastern Virginia district attorney Erik Siebert and refuted any misconduct associated to his two impeachments.

Siebert, who was the chief federal prosecutor in Virginia, stepped down on Friday under strain from the Trump administration after his workplace discovered no grounds to press prison fees against New York Attorney General Letitia James, a longstanding adversary of Trump, in a mortgage fraud probe. “No, I fired him, and there is a GREAT CASE, and many lawyers, and legal pundits, say so. Lindsey Halligan is a really good lawyer, and likes you, a lot. We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility”.

“They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times! ), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW! ! !” he wrote in a call for punishment against his political enemies.

Trump confronted impeachment for the second time in 2021 on fees of inciting an revolt, following a violent assault by his supporters on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 as he falsely disputed the 2020 election outcomes. The assault led to 5 deaths within 36 hours and left 174 police officers wounded.

The removal of Siebert as U.S. attorney for the prominent Eastern District of Virginia office occurred during efforts by Trump administration officials to prosecute James, a perceived opponent of the president who has successfully pursued legal action against him for fraud, according to The Associated Press.

Trump informed reporters in the Oval Office on Friday that he wanted Siebert “out” and several people with knowledge of the situation later confirmed to the AP that Siebert had notified his colleagues of his intention to step down from the role. The administration’s push to remove him from his position marks another breakdown of standards designed to shield the Justice Department from White House interference in prosecutorial matters.

The action is expected to heighten worries that the department – already probing other public figures Trump views as adversaries – is being turned into a weapon by a White House seeking to use its prosecutorial authority for revenge purposes.

A conservative attorney who claims she was wrongly accused of being present at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was selected to replace Siebert.

Mary “Maggie” Cleary announced in a Saturday email to personnel that she had been appointed as acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, according to a document reviewed by The Associated Press.

The Justice Department has invested months pursuing the probe but has not filed any charges, and there’s been no sign that investigators have discovered sufficient incriminating evidence needed to obtain an indictment. James’ legal team has strongly rejected all accusations and described the probe as politically motivated retaliation.
