Phil Mickelson, the LIV Golf star and one of the most notable American Ryder Cup gamers, has candidly shared his ideas on probably being the Ryder Cup captain.

Despite declaring that he would not need the captaincy function due to considerations about probably dividing the crew, the golf celebrity has never shied away from voicing his criticisms, even when it’d damage crew morale.

“In my case, we had Ray Floyd, and we frolicked together and we had been all invested in each other’s play… And the other factor that Paul did rather well was he had a great sport plan for us, you recognize, how we had been going to go about doing this.

“How we were going to go about playing together; golf ball, format, what we were going to do, if so-and-so is playing well, if so-and-so is not playing well, we had a real game plan.
“Those two issues helped us deliver out our best golf. And I believe that, you recognize, we all do the best that we are able to and we’re all attempting our hardest, and I’m just wanting back at what gave us the most success.
“Because we use that same process in The Presidents Cup and we do really well. Unfortunately, we have strayed from a winning formula in 2008 for the last three Ryder Cups, and we need to consider maybe getting back to that formula that helped us play our best.”
Mickelson and Team USA had been defeated by Team Europe that 12 months with a rating of 16 1/2 to 11 1/2. Interestingly, this victory highlighted European dominance, as Europe gained eight out of ten competitions from 1995 to 2014.
