President Donald Trump revealed what Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said before he launched the first strike against Iran.

The president visited Memphis, Tennessee, to take part in a roundtable dialogue concerning the Memphis Safe Task Force’s operations and successes. He famous as he started the dialogue that he had been suggested to cancel the journey to Memphis, due to the ongoing battle in Iran, but insisted that he wouldn’t be canceling “for anything.”

He supplied a temporary update on the continued state of affairs in the Middle East, reiterating his earlier assertion that the U.S. would maintain off on strikes against Iranian energy plants for 5 days, while they attempt to attain a decision through negotiations.

Trump spoke about his determination to launch navy strikes three weeks in the past, saying, “Pete, I think you were the first one to speak up. You said, ‘Let’s do it.'”

The president added that the Secretary of Defense had told him, “Because you can’t let them have a nuclear weapon.”

Trump’s obvious attempt to place the blame on Hegseth immediately sparked a dialog on social media about Trump’s sample of blaming members of his administration for failed strikes.

@TorranceMcClell wrote on X, “Once again, President Trump throws a cabinet member under the bus, this time it’s Secretary Pete Hegseth. The President does this frequently, and each and every one of them allow it!”

Hegseth sat quietly a few seats down from Trump during the event in Memphis, and said nothing when he was introduced up in the president’s remarks. The ‘Secretary of War’ as Trump nicknamed him, has held a quantity of briefings since the strikes started three weeks in the past, most lately saying that he proudly told his son the fallen troopers in Iran had died for him.

“They died for you, son. So your generation doesn’t have to live with a nuclear Iran,” Hegseth said to the cameras.

The warfare against Iran has shortly develop into one of Trump’s most controversial presidential strikes to date, sparking criticism on both sides of the political spectrum. The Guardian reported that the warfare had price the U.S. $12.7bn by day six. The White House has declined to disclose the precise quantity collected to date.

Iran’s determination to close the Strait of Hormuz has also had severe implications for global oil and gasoline costs, including to mounting strain for Americans. Despite Trump’s determined pleas, fellow world leaders have ignored his calls to motion, leaving the U.S. to negotiate alone.

Not everybody in Memphis welcomed the president with open arms. Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen said during a press convention earlier in the day that Trump’s go to was a “publicity stunt.”

“This is an unnecessary trip for the president. He has a war in Iran, he’s got gas prices up 80 cents a gallon since the war started… grocery prices and affordability issues are what he needs to be dealing with,” Cohen said.

Cohen also called for the removing of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Memphis, saying, “The (Memphis) Safe Task Force has done its job. But part of its job was ICE. And ICE needs to go.”

“ICE is the worst group of people ever put together under the aegis of the United States of America,” Cohen added.
