Donald Trump appeared to indicate that Elon Musk suffers from “Trump derangement syndrome,” stating that his former advisor was “disturbed” by the cut in the electric vehicle tax credit in his “large, lovely invoice.”

“Elon’s upset because we took the EV mandate — which was a lot of money for electric vehicles — and they’re having a hard time with electric vehicles, and they want us to pay billions of dollars in subsidy. Elon knew this from the beginning. He knew it from a long time ago,” Trump said. “I know that disturbed him.”

In a stunning transfer, the president spent practically 10 minutes discussing his former adviser while seated next to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Oval Office. He expressed disappointment in Musk, significantly since Musk “knew the inner workings of the bill.”

Upon leaving, Musk could have developed “Trump derangement syndrome,” Trump seemingly recommended to White House reporters.

“I’m very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here — better than you people. He knew everything about it. He had no problem with it. Trump expressed disappointment in Musk following his departure, stating that Musk “never had a problem until right after he left.” He alluded to having aided Musk significantly, probably referring to the promotion of Tesla autos at the White House in March.

Tesla has skilled unrest with violent protests and property injury in both the U.S. and internationally, incited by Musk’s connections to the White House. As chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk instigated sweeping reductions across numerous federal businesses, severely paring down the federal workforce, a transfer that has angered many Americans.

Trump also shared his belief that Musk was irked with him for not taking up his suggested candidate to lead NASA.

“He wished, and rightfully, he beneficial someone that he, I assume, knew very effectively — I’m sure he revered him — to run NASA, and I did not assume it was acceptable. He occurred to be a Democrat — like completely Democrat. And I stated, ‘You know, look. We received. We get sure privileges. A White House representative indicated that Trump is expected to discuss issues such as Germany’s defense spending, trade, Ukraine, and what the official termed “democratic backsliding” with Merz.
