As the high-stakes battle between Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran intensifies, President Donald Trump now says it is “possible” the United States may get militarily concerned. Trump also stated on Sunday he is open to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin serving as mediator between the Israelis and the novel Islamist mullahs in Tehran.

I’d usually say one thing like “What could possibly go wrong?” but in this battle — which has been inevitable since the Islamists overthrew the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, on February 11, 1979 —the final word reply to the query is unthinkable.

In an interview with ABC News’ Rachel Scott on Sunday, Trump stated the United States isn’t concerned in Israel‘s army strikes against Iran, but “it’s possible we could get involved,” after studies surfaced that the Jewish state had urged the U.S. to be part of the trouble to destroy Iran’s nuclear program, with some specialists suggesting that toppling the Islamist regime is also doable.

Trump instructed ABC he had a prolonged dialogue with Putin on Saturday to talk about the battle, also telling the outlet he can be “open” to Putin’s thought to serve as a mediator between Iran and Israel:

I’d be open to it. [Putin] is prepared. He referred to as me about it. We had a long discuss about it. We talked about this more than his scenario. This is one thing I imagine goes to get resolved.

While this may not be “Twilight Zone” territory, it is a bit surrealistic in the sense of Vladimir Putin, of all people — who seems to stay hellbent on utterly destroying Ukraine as he indiscriminately bombs Ukrainian civilians — serving as a peacemaker. So, yeah — what may presumably go mistaken? 

Putin making an attempt to make a secret facet deal with Tehran? 

Dunno — but I do know that Putin has proven, innumerable occasions, that it is a idiot’s sport to trust him or imagine a phrase that comes out of his dictator mouth.

Trump also instructed ABC he gave the Iranians a “60-day ultimatum” to “make a deal,” which they failed to meet, and that he wouldn’t set a new deadline.

No, there’s no deadline. But they’re speaking. They’d [Iran] like to make a deal. They’re speaking. They proceed to discuss. Something like this had to occur because I believe even from both sides, but one thing like this had to occur. They need to discuss, and they are going to be speaking.

While Trump generally tends to sound a bit more optimistic than conditions or occasions would recommend is reasonable, “They want to talk, and they will be talking” doesn’t mean — call me a skeptic — that a really peaceable consequence is in the offing, significantly given Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who vowed to “destroy” Israel following its assault on Iranian nuclear services.

Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, was set to journey to Oman on Sunday for one other spherical of nuclear talks with Iranian officers, but following Israel’s strikes, Iran referred to as off the assembly.
