US President Donald Trump abruptly ended an interview with journalist Kristen Welker, strolling out of a Meet the Press dialogue after an intense exchange with the host concerning election fraud claims.
The interview was performed in Wisconsin on Friday, May 5, and broadcast on Meet the Press on NBC on Sunday morning, May 7.
Trump grew noticeably agitated when Welker questioned him about his intentions concerning the $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund designed to assist people claiming persecution by the federal authorities, including contributors in the January 6, 2021, Capitol breach.
Trump acknowledged, “I don’t know what’s going to happen with the weaponization fund. I love the idea, because people like you, the fake dirty press, the crooked press, people like stupid Biden, he’s not smart enough to know what’s going on, but people who surrounded him, surrounded his beautiful Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, what they did to the lives of people, they destroyed people. They sent people to jail who did nothing wrong.”
When Welker countered that there was “no evidence” supporting his assertions, Trump maintained there was “tremendous evidence”.

He proceeded to declare “the election was rigged”, referencing the 2020 US Presidential election in which Joe Biden prevailed over Trump, who was looking for reelection at that time.
Following further exchanges (Welker asserts “no evidence,” Trump maintains his place), the President unleashed criticism at Welker and Meet the Press. “They’re crooked just like you’re crooked, your press is crooked,” Trump acknowledged. “And Meet the Press is crooked.”
The President continued: “Your elections are crooked, and you’re crooked, and Meet The Press is crooked, and so is ABC and CBS and GWN, your one-sided crooked networks, right?”

“You’re either crooked or you’re stupid. Let’s call it quits. Because I’ve had enough. Thank you darling,” he tells her.”

“Let’s call it quits, because I’ve had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time,” he said. A visibly rattled Welker urged him to stay, noting: “I travelled all the way to Wisconsin.”
Trump, however, remained unmoved, urgent on with his criticism. “I’ve sat here for an hour on and off in the rain, and I’ve given you enough time.
“You need to straighten out your press, because you already know what a nation can never be great with a dishonest press.” He then abruptly departed from the set.
Welker briefly moved to follow him before turning toward the camera, appearing bewildered by what had just transpired.
