President Trump’s rising threats centering on a Greenland takeover have stoked mounting World War III fears across the globe.
He made the stark announcement on conservative Social Media platform Truth Social
“We have backed Denmark, and all of the Countries of the European Union, and others, for many years by not charging them Tariffs, or any other varieties of remuneration. Now, after Centuries, it’s time for Denmark to give back — World Peace is at stake! China and Russia need Greenland, and there’s not a factor that Denmark can do about it.” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday morning.
According to the lengthy Truth Social statement, the countries subjected to the tariffs are Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland.
During a rural healthcare event yesterday, Trump told the audience of lawmakers, doctors, and political pundits he might put tariffs on countries that did not “go along with Greenland because we need Greenland for national security.”
That same day, NATO troops and ships from several European states began gathering in Greenland. The limited deployment involves Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, and the U.K.
According to the Daily Mail, Danish F-35 fighter jets and a French MRTT tanker arrived at the island on Friday as part of a mission by European allies to focus on long-distance flying and operating in harsh winter conditions, as experienced in Greenland.
The French tanker aircraft reportedly departed from a base in southern France and, after completing the planned training in Greenland on Friday, returned to Europe.
On Thursday-prior to the arrival of the troops- the White House said the arrival of European troops in Greenland will not change Donald Trump’s ambitions to acquire the Arctic island.
“I do not assume troops in Europe impacts the president’s decision-making course of or affect his objective of the acquisition of Greenland at all,” White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told reporters.
The commander in chief has more and more zeroed in on taking over the Arctic island, stating that it’s in the curiosity of national security because it’s strategically situated between North America and the Arctic, making it nicely positioned for early warning systems in the event of missile assaults, and for monitoring vessels in the area.
The White House has constantly asserted that it will not rule out army force in Greenland.
