Bubba Watson admits that the shape of him and his LIV Golf crew “can’t get any worse,” despite producing his best particular person season on the breakaway tour in 2025. 

Watson is the captain of the RangeGoats, who completed tenth in the standings last season, and the two-time Masters champion had a glum view of the marketing campaign. 

Watson has had a disrupted offseason after having minor surgical procedure in October to take away a painful growth on his left ring finger, and his preparation has been restricted with the season-opener in Riyadh next month fast approaching. 

Despite his scathing evaluation of last yr and having restricted alternatives to hone his abilities forward of the new marketing campaign, the 47-year-old has raised expectations.

“I mean, it can’t get any worse,” he solely told Express U.S Sports. “I think we, the RangeGoats, have finished what, ninth last two years?. So I’m looking forward to trying to challenge that, trying to be better than that.

“I’m starting to play now. The finger is getting better. It’s still a little bruised, but hopefully over the next month, I’ll be able to just practice, get some short game in, get the rust off and be ready to go.”

One of the largest speaking factors of LIV’s offseason is the change to a more conventional 72-hole format. The change from 54 to 72 holes, seen as a transfer to fulfill the Official World Golf Ranking in the pursuit of long-awaited accreditation, has cut up opinion between LIV’s membership. 

Watson believes the choice to transfer away from LIV’s identification as a faster-paced product is a poor one.

“No, I think we should go three days, and there’s a reason why. I think that as a sprint, everybody stays together,” he said. “When you go four days, you’re going to have some more spread-out leaders, and it just kind of takes away your last round, right?

“And when everybody’s close battling, it puts more people in the mix in the last round, and that makes it better for the fans when there’s chaos happening.”

The other vital development for LIV in current weeks has been Brooks Koepka’s choice to depart last month. The five-time major champion’s PGA Tour membership was reinstated this week, and a door has been opened for more big-name gamers to comply with. 

Watson, though, stays bullish about LIV’s future. “The league’s in a great spot. One person is not going to dictate what the league’s doing,” he insisted. “The beauty is that now he gets to spend more time with his family.

“That’s what he wants. And so that’s good. It’s great for him. As a friend, I hope he has a great time and it’s great that he’s still playing professional golf. And LIV has always been about pathways to play other tours. So it’s great.”
