The president told aides on Monday that he would back the killing of new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei if he proves unwilling to cede to U.S. calls for, two officers told The Wall Street Journal.
Trump told the New York Post on Monday that he is “not happy” with Khamenei being chosen to lead Iran after he beforehand called former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s son “unacceptable.”

“I’m not going through this to end up with another Khamenei,” the president told Time magazine. In that interview, Trump said Israel would doubtless execute an operation aimed at taking out Khamenei.
A current and former U.S. official told the outlet that Israel was taking the lead on focusing on Iranian leaders as the conflict continues. When requested if Khamenei was a goal for Israel, the nation’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar told GWN, “You’ll have to wait and see.”
