Tyra Banks fans say new hosting gig on rival | TV Shows
Tyra Banks has taken on a surprise new hosting gig on a rival network following her Dancing with the Stars exit and fans are raving about it.
After stepping down from the hit ABC dancing competition show in 2023, the 51-year-old model is back on televison as a guest co-host on NBC‘s Today with Jenna & Friends.
Her debut appearance has already been met with rave reviews, with viewers lauding her presenting style and chemistry with Jenna Bush Hager, 43.
They even claim Banks is a “natural” fit as a guest host on the talk show.
The show’s Instagram account posted a video of Banks’ first day on set, captioning it: “Day one with @tyrabanks: Tune in tomorrow for more fun! #jennaandfriends.”
After doing the gig solo for Seasons 29 and 30, she was joined by Season 19 champ Alfonso Ribeiro as a co-host in Season 31.
Ribeiro now serves as the main host, while two-time champ and former professional dancer Julianne Hough is the co-host.
The former America’s Next Top Model host consistently made errors and irked fans throughout her three seasons as host. In addition, she made changes to other elements of the show, including several outfit changes for herself and a special host intro.
She also constantly cut off judges and contestants while they received scores and critiques, and made several mistakes.
According to a source of The US SUN, DWTS producers felt “Tyra has had struggles warming up to the team, contestants, and certainly the audience. There seems to be a disconnect again with viewers which always raises concerns.”
The insider continued: “We still get emails and comments about her performance and it is upsetting. The team works extraordinarily hard to deliver the best series every year, but the main focus of fans’ upset is the host.”
Banks had previously announced she wasn’t hosting any longer after three seasons in March 2023, announcing she was going to focus on her other ventures.
She told TMZ: “I think it’s time. I think my heart and soul are into my business. It’s also into producing TV. I really, really want to focus on my business and you can’t do that while hosting a show. So you’ll see me creating things, not just hosting.”
The presenter explained that she was shifting her focus to her ice cream business SMiZE & Dream, which she launched in 2021.
She told the news outlet: “I’m really focused on business, like crazy focused. SMiZE & Dream is global so I feel it’s time for me to really focus on my business and my entrepreneurship.”
Tyra went on to add: “I think it’s time to graduate from the dance floor to the stock market floor. Mic drop.”
