John Fury, father of Tyson Fury, has apologised after threatening to headbutt a BBC commentator during his son’s comeback press convention this week. Fury Snr was expressing his disdain for Carl Froch, accusing the previous super-middleweight world champion of displaying disrespect.

Shortly after, he encountered BBC boxing reporter Steve Bunce in the hall, with Fury questioning the way in which he was trying at him. Addressing Bunce, he remarked: “What are you looking at? Don’t look at me because I’ll butt your head right in the f***ing nose.”

“I think Netflix is out of order even employing Carl Froch and bringing him there, knowing the friction he’s been causing. And he’s a Fury hater, he hates Tyson, he hates the Fury family, why he was there I don’t know, that’s Netflix’s choice, not mine.

Bunce, attempting to keep a lid on things replied: “I’m your friend, John.” To which Fury, growing in anger at this level, said: “You’re not my f***ing friend.”

An apology from Fury has since been isused, with the 60-year-old saying: “’I’m sorry, Steve. I was bang out of order, I got carried away with emotion, there were people winding me up, these internet trolls and all this kind of thing.

“Sometimes we’re all human, we’ve got feelings, and it can get to you, especially with a man like me. I’m heartbroken over it, I watched it back, where was I? Emotions were high when people won’t leave you alone, they torment you all the time, 24 hours a day, thinking they’re going to get a paycheck.

“But again, Steve Bunce, I want to apologise to you, you are my friend, emotions were running high and I do apologise, mate. I’m ashamed of my behaviour towards you, I really am. I hope you accept my apology, Steve.

“I wasn’t myself as you can see. When you’re in fight mode, you’re in fight mode aren’t you. It is the fight business, it is the fight game, don’t take it too personally my mate, God bless you, Steve, and I’ll buy you a pint of beer and shake your hand and apologise in person. Sorry again, mate.”

However, Froch was less reserved in his response, saying: “Big John Fury the fighting man. Put some respect on your name. Put some respect on your own name. Grow a set of knackers. You said you know you’re afraid of no man but God.

“So get yourself in the gym, get yourself throwing a few punches and start to feel good about yourself. Have a word with Mams Taylor and me and you can do it, we can do it. And I’ll be honest, I’ll take my time with you. I’ll pepper you with a couple of jabs. I’ll hit you with a couple of right hands to the body. And when you fall on the floor, I’ll help you up because that’s what’ll happen. It’ll be embarrassing.

“You just embarrassed yourself there and you’ll embarrass yourself again. You need to stop doing it. Tyson Fury doesn’t need you and your big gobs**** mouth running around shouting and swearing, being a f***ing idiot in public.”
