In a post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump shared that the beforehand reported $300B reconstruction fund for Iran that is an element of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) is “fake news.”
“Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon! Also, the story that the U.S. is paying Iran 300 million Dollars is Fake News, put out by the Dumocrats!!!” he wrote, singing off the post with “President DJT.”
Earlier on Monday, The Hill reported that a U.S. official told reporters, “We discussed the possibility of releasing frozen funds, sanctions relief, you know, a big $300 billion fund to rebuild their country, and all of these things are going to be tied to performance.”
On Monday morning, Vice President JD Vance also appeared to affirm the likelihood in an interview with CBS News. When he was requested about the potential $300 billion to rebuild Iran, the vice president said, “That’s the sort of thing they could have access to, funded by the Gulf Coast Coalition, so long as they honor their end of the obligation.”
The New York Times also reported that the settlement included a $300 billion reconstruction investment fund for Iran, with the outlet citing data from an Iranian official and a diplomat.
Later, senior U.S. officers told reporters that the initial memorandum of understanding (MOU), which was agreed upon and signed over the weekend, is only the first step. “Real technical discussions” will happen later this week and be led by Vice President Vance.

Before the weekend, Vance said Tehran wouldn’t be “receiving any cash” under the MOU with the U.S.
“First, the Iranians are not receiving any cash, and no funds are being released for simply signing a deal or attending a meeting,” Vance wrote on X. “The deal is structured to ensure that the US and its allies concerns are prioritized, and that if the Islamic Republic of Iran meets its obligations, then economic benefits will flow to them and to the entire region.”
On Monday night, Kellie Meyer, NewsNation’s White House correspondent, shared that Vance had more data.
“They’re agreeing right now to eliminate the stockpile,” Vance said, according to Meyer. “If they don’t agree to stop enriching, then they don’t get the other benefits of the bargain. They can get a lot if they comply with the United States demands.”
In earlier studies, the Times famous that two Iranian officers explained that the next section “would include discussion of the lifting of American sanctions, including on Iran’s oil sales and international banking transactions, in exchange for concessions on the Iranian nuclear program.”
Foreign Minister Araghchi famous that there can be a two-part settlement to end the war. The first can be the signing of the MOU between Tehran and Washington. Then, both partied would talk about a lasting peace deal.
“The nuclear issue has been left for the second round and a final agreement,” Mr. Araghchi said.
