Former United States captain Paul Azinger has voiced his strong opposition to Bethpage Black serving as the Ryder Cup host venue. He anticipates that Keegan Bradley’s squad will echo his issues when they conflict with Luke Donald’s group.

Bethpage hardly ever options on the Tour circuit due to its public course designation, main Azinger to label this venue alternative as a major miscalculation by the PGA of America ahead of the match.

With news that Team Europe captain Luke Donald despatched a warning to USA, the triumphant 2008 captain declared: “We don’t know the course. Our guys aren’t going to necessarily be rolling in there a month early or two months early because we only have six guys that know they’re on the team.

“I feel one of the most important errors that the American Ryder Cup group always appears to make, or the PGA of America, is that they go to programs that we’re not acquainted with.”

The revelation emerges as Phil Mickelson made his emotions clear on being Ryder Cup captain, experiences the Mirror US.

“This course, I could not stand it. I did my two rounds and suppose I used to be 18 over [par] for two days there in the US Open. The media cherished it because it was a public course. I actually do not like Bethpage Black. There’s a lot of awkward angles, downhill tee pictures to fairways that angle away, uphill second pictures where you may’t see the touchdown space. It’s just laborious and you can not fluke your method around there.

“I feel like Keegan’s going to have to get these guys on a mission and on a mission quickly. Single-minded to figure out how to fall in love with Bethpage Black. I guarantee you they don’t love it. Europe doesn’t care if it’s what the course is. Our guys might. I feel like they have to be there enough to fall in love with the course. They have to play their way in.”

Azinger is also baffled as to why Bradley and the home management cannot configure the course to secure some edge over Europe. He continued: “I don’t know where they’re going to put the tees or how long they’re going to make it or how deep the rough is. I know that neither team has control of the course now, allegedly.

“Europe’s always managed the course on us. I’ve spent so a lot time with Tony Jacklin, I’ve even been with him publicly when he said, of course, we have managed the course. I’m the only American captain that ever was the first captain that wished to control the course in some capability and so I do not know if they’ve misplaced that alternative or that potential now to do that, but I really feel like now they’ve perhaps stopped that altogether.

“I thought it was fun. It’s another element of being the captain. Look, let’s face it, in Italy, you’re trying to tell me they didn’t control the course?”. “All their analytics proved that they were better than us with their fairway woods and long irons and all the par fours and the par threes played fairway wood and long irons and they destroyed us on those holes.

“I see no benefit and I really feel if the US will get off to a dangerous start, even the gang may change into risky there.

“That’s why I told Keegan right out of the gate, buddy, you got to win the crowd. I’d be passing out lapel pins to the crowd like we did. Just getting them on our side. Europe’s bringing all their same guys back. They’re rolling in with a quiet confidence. I haven’t heard them chirping or popping off.”
