Vance announces big change to oil passing through | Political News
Vice President JD Vance said the U.S. Navy has already allowed over a dozen ships to traverse the Strait of Hormuz after leaving from Iranian ports — successfully lifting its blockade, which was a key tenet to the settlement between the U.S. and Iran to end the three-month warfare.
Vance announced the lifting of the blockade during a White House press briefing on Thursday morning, during which he said more oil is now flowing through the strait.
The Republican went on to say he estimates that more than 12.5 million barrels went through the transport channel as of Wednesday evening — the best since the battle started in late February, he said.
He added that the U.S. is honoring its end of the early half of the settlement on the navy facet.
“On the military side, the Iranians, for the second night in a row, did not shoot at any ships in the Strait of Hormuz. So far, they are honoring their end of the commitment,” he said.
“And on the blockade, CENTCOM has allowed north of a dozen ships to go through our naval blockade, and so we’re also honoring our end of the early part of the agreement,” he added.
Vance went on to argue that the American people are already seeing “real fruits” borne from President Donald Trump‘s 14-point peace plan, which incorporates provisions to reopen the strait, taper Iran’s nuclear capabilities and also decrease sanctions on the Islamic Republic while it will get back on its ft.
“I think the president’s peace plan in Iran is already bearing real fruits for the American people,” Vance said. “Oil prices are down nearly at their level from the pre-war [level]. Gas prices dropped below $4 a gallon today for the first time since the conflict, and importantly, they’re going to keep falling further.”
He also emphasised that Iran’s nuclear program “has been completely destroyed” and stays as such, with their capability for enriching uranium still unusable.
“Their conventional military is still destroyed. Their capacity to threaten their neighbors is still largely gone. And now, we see whether they are willing to comply with the next step of the president’s peace plan,” Vance said.
