Garner, according to Violet, “was shell-shocked, astonished at the scale of destruction in the neighborhood where she raised myself and my siblings.”

Violet mentioned that her youthful brother, Samuel, 13, had doubts that there was a connection between the wildfires and climate change.

The teenager, who is a freshman at Yale and is outspoken about public health, went on to write that she had an “uncommon” opinion about the fires in contrast to different rich Pacific Palisades residents.

“As I chatted with adults in the hotel where we’d gone to escape the smoke, though, I found my position to be an uncommon one: people spoke of how long rebuilding would take, how much it would cost, and how tragically odd the whole situation had been,” she mentioned.

Violet also argued that climate change is an “existential and accelerating” disaster.

“Our bewildered response to crises like the LA fires tell us we may still be accustomed to addressing the climate crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic: as a question of how fast we can get back around to pretending like the problem is gone,” she wrote.

Last 12 months, Violet spoke in entrance of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and made a plea for masks mandates in LA hospitals.
