What Tariff Blow? Grizzly Trump Now Roaring Back

Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) is a national treasure. Being more than a little acquainted with the entire “folksy wisdom” factor myself, I acknowledge a grasp when I see one, and Senator Kennedy is one of the best practitioners of that artwork, ever. This is a man who may have given Mark Twain a run for his money, and we’re fortunate to have him around. I’m just sorry he isn’t in Alaska, so I may run in and enthusiastically vote for him at every alternative.

Now, he is supplied some ideas on the latest Supreme Court tariff choice, and there’s a veiled Alaska reference in there – kind of.

Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., supplied an optimistic perspective on the Supreme Court’s tariff ruling, arguing the “grizzly” in the Oval Office ought to view it as a win.

In a 6-3 ruling Friday, the high court struck down President Donald Trump’s global tariff authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). 

Despite the legal setback, Kennedy argued Trump’s use of tariffs has secured strong commerce offers and may enhance the financial system.

Roaring? Another grizzly reference? Possibly so. And it wasn’t the last one:

“The president didn’t just sit around admiring that trade authority, that tariff authority, sucking on his teeth. He used it, and he used it to negotiate trade agreements,” Kennedy said.

And:

“He believes in being a bear. And he thinks if you’re [going to] be a bear, be a grizzly,” Kennedy said of Trump’s aggressive commerce strategy.

Being acquainted with bears – and Alaska, thoughts you, is the only state that has not one, not two, but three varieties of bears – I am unable to help but agree.

While it took the inestimable Senator Kennedy to convey the comparability up, it is a good one. President Trump, even before his transfer into politics, has always appeared to be a “go big or go home” operator. He actually has never lacked for bold targets, and working for president thrice and profitable twice is only the latest in a long collection of those targets. And Democrats who long to take the House so they’ll fire up the Impeach-a-Palooza might want to keep in mind one factor: A bear is at its most harmful when it is injured and hurting.
