BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Three people had been arrested on Monday at the Buffalo Niagara Airport after they allegedly smuggled over 200 pounds of marijuana across state strains, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) announced.

Alberto Capo Medina, 43, Rene Cintron, III, 46, and Jose Alberto Echevarria, 46, all of the U.S., flew on United Airlines from San Francisco to Washington and then landed at the Buffalo Niagara Airport.

An NFTA K9 did an open-air sniff of the baggage and alerted to 9 suitcases belonging to Medina, Echevarria and Cintron, which contained 238 vacuum sealed luggage of 238 pounds of marijuana, NFTA police said.

The luggage had been loaded onto the carousel, where the three reportedly took the baggage and tried to flee.

Medina, Echevarria and Cintron had been taken into custody and charged with first-degree felony possession of hashish.
