Michael Waltz has formally logged off. The National Security Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, Mike Waltz, has formally vacated his place following the Signalgate group chat fiasco in March.

Alongside Waltz, his deputy, Alex Wong, will also be stepping down.

Insiders close to the White House have confirmed that both Wong and Waltz’s departures will take impact from Thursday. Waltz, a first-timer in the second Trump administration, confronted intense scrutiny after he initiated a group chat on the encrypted Signal app.

This chat included notable figures such as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Vice President JD Vance, and The Atlantic’s editor, Jeffrey Goldberg.

Goldberg later blew the whistle on the group chat, which had been discussing varied national security plans, including a army strike on Houthi targets in Yemen. CBS News initially reported that Goldberg had omitted operational specifics in his publication, experiences the Irish Star.

However, when Hegseth, Gabbard, and Ratcliffe denied any categorized info being shared via the chat, Goldberg went forward and printed those particulars too, revealing the timing of the strikes and the weapons packages used. Following the publicity of the group chat, Waltz and the White House embarked on a marketing campaign to discredit Goldberg.

Waltz was caught in a contradiction when he said he “never met” the editor, yet a photograph from a group chat clearly reveals Waltz including the journalist to the group before revealing plans to bomb Yemen and goal Houthi dissidents. “Team- establishing a principles group for coordination on Houthis, particularly for over the next 72 hours,” Waltz is seen writing in the screenshot.

“My deputy Alex Wong is pulling together a tiger team at deputies/agency Chief of Staff level following up from the meeting in the Sit Room this morning for action items and will be sending that out later this evening,” he additional writes. “Pls provide the best staff POC from your team for us to coordinate with over the next couple days and over the weekend.”

This revelation comes as Goldberg’s cache of pictures emerged, placing Waltz on the defensive as he tried to clarify the mishap, insisting he had never met or “never communicated” with the editor during White House gatherings.

“There’s a lot of journalists in this city who have made big names for themselves making up lies about this president,” Waltz claimed in a Tuesday interview with The Hill. “Whether it’s the Russia hoax or making up lies about Gold Star families, and this one in particular I’ve never met, don’t know, never communicated with, and we are looking into and reviewing how the heck he got into this room.”

In a dialogue with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, Waltz lambasted Goldberg for his frequent disparagement of Trump. “I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but of all the people out there, somehow this guy, who has lied about the president, lied about Gold Star families, lied to their attorneys and just gone to all kinds of lengths to lie and smear the president of the United States and he’s the one who gets on someone’s contact, and gets sucked into this group,” Waltz vented.

Waltz also urged that Goldberg cunningly infiltrated the chat by disguising his telephone quantity under one other individual’s title. “So of course, I didn’t see this loser in the group,” Waltz remarked following the scandal.
