Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has finally shed mild on his resolution not to affirm his next transfer yet. The Pittsburgh Steelers look set to signal him in the offseason, particularly after they did not choose a new signal caller until the NFL Draft’s sixth spherical.

The 41-year-old admitted on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ that he is prioritising personal issues, revealing that a close pal is battling cancer.

While retaining tight-lipped over his future all winter and into the spring, Rodgers candidly revealed on Wednesday’s podcast: “I’ve figured it out the last year when I’ve been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer.

“I imply it is a small proportion. Because the conversations have been had. There’s no more contemplation. I’m taking care of my people proper now, and I’m taking care of my personal life duties, and I’m retaining the dialog open as nicely.

“I’m in a serious relationship. I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention. I have personal commitments I have made.

“I’ve a couple of people in my internal, internal circle who are battling some troublesome stuff. So, I’ve a lot of issues that are taking my consideration.”

The Steelers’ current quarterback lineup includes Mason Rudolph, supported by Skylar Thompson and recent pick Will Howard.

When questioned about the possibility of signing Rodgers after the NFL Draft, Pittsburgh’s head coach Mike Tomlin expressed cautious optimism. “That’s actually a risk,” he said.

“I’m not going to forecast the ifs and whens relating to not only him, but any different potential free agent. We’ve had actually productive talks with him, and I’ve loved having productive talks with him and getting to know him.”

In an interesting turn of events, the NFL has scheduled the Steelers to play against the New York Jets – where Rodgers spent his last two seasons – in Week 1.

Mike North, the NFL vice president of broadcasting and scheduling, stressed that the league had no insider knowledge of where Rodgers would sign when creating the schedule.

“We do not know something more than anyone else,” North disclosed during a conference call. “The schedule was constructed for Coach [Mike] Tomlin and for the Steelers, and if Aaron decides to play it most likely just makes many, if not all, the Steelers video games a little more attention-grabbing.”

Pittsburgh are also set to face the Green Bay Packers, who picked up Rodgers in the first spherical of the 2005 NFL Draft, in Sunday Night Football in Week 8.
