Sepp Strakas unexpected nickname which comes from | Golf News


Sepp Straka has revealed the origin story behind his nickname on the golf course – and it is all down to his measurement.

The Austrian is also recognized by his Ryder Cup teammates as “Ox.” Standing at 6ft 3 and weighing in at 220 kilos, he is heads and shoulders above his opponents.

“I’m big, like an ox,” Straka explained.

It’s not just his construct that’s big, but his coronary heart too as he made the heartfelt selection to forgo a Ryder Cup warmup event, opting instead to be with his spouse and new child child.

Straka has been on a roll this season, clinching two PGA Tour wins at The American Express in January and the Truist Championship in May, incomes high reward from Rory McIlroy and securing a spot as one of European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald’s six alternatives.

The couple’s romance started at Auburn’s Sky Bar during a faculty soccer conflict between the Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs, main to their marriage in September 2021.

In an amusing twist, Paige and Straka discovered themselves cheering for opposing groups in the heated faculty rivalry.

“I always thought that I would meet my husband in Auburn. I prayed to marry a true, Auburn man, and we would live happily ever after – cheering on our Auburn Tigers,” Paige reminisced in March 2021. “God has a real sense of humor and half of that prayer was answered. I did meet the love of my life in Auburn, at Sky Bar – icing on the cake! – but he turned out to be the BIGGEST UGA fan on the planet.

“We teased each other all through that first evening – and the next evening.

“Is it strange that I enjoyed the back-and-forth banter? Honestly, I think that’s what ignited the spark – that and some nudging from good friends. Before we knew it, we were introducing each other to our families at Christmas!

Reflecting on their initial encounter, Straka added: “We met at the UGA/Auburn sport in Auburn.

“I have a close friend who attended Auburn, so I went to the game with him and his then-girlfriend, now wife, was friends with Paige. We really clicked after the game even though she was quite vocal about Auburn winning… (Thankfully, that’s the last time Auburn has beaten Georgia, so I haven’t had to endure it since.)”.
