Rory McIlroy names two tournaments hell always | Golf News
Rory McIlroy, despite his illustrious profession in golf’s most esteemed tournaments, insists he’ll ‘always’ take part in a number of occasions exterior the PGA Tour.
Currently competing in the DP World India Championship – his first event since Europe’s triumphant Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black – McIlroy believes the event aligns completely with his calendar preferences. He has also raised some eyebrows with his feedback on the Ryder Cup captaincy – after Luke Donald made his emotions clear.
“I would say as time goes on, my schedule will get hopefully more international. Because that’s what I’ve enjoyed doing. I’ve always said that.” McIlroy said. “But I think over the last few years, I’ve enjoyed it even more. I’ve enjoyed the travel. I’ve enjoyed getting to play in front of people that I’ve never played in front of before. But it does, it fits really nicely.”
He then highlighted two tournaments he’ll always compete in, neither of that are half of the PGA Tour.
“You know, because there is – I’ll always go back and play The Irish Open and [the BMW PGA Championship at] Wentworth in September, and then you sort of have especially in non-Ryder Cup years, you’ve got some choices to make where you want to play, how much do you want to play, do you want to take some time off,” added McIlroy.
Following his victory at Augusta National in April, where he secured his first inexperienced jacket and accomplished his profession Grand Slam, McIlroy went on to win his second Irish Open in September. He then positioned T20 alongside Ryder Cup teammate Ludvig Aberg at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
McIlroy, a identified fan of the Ryder Cup, expressed his emotions about the disrespectful treatment he obtained from followers at this 12 months’s event. He said that the booing and taunting did not change him.
“Obviously it’s been two weeks, and I’ve been following the sort of narrative coming out of the Ryder Cup just like everyone else,” McIlroy said. “But unfortunately, I think it takes away from what we focused on which is what an incredible performance it was by the European team.”
He then identified that the loud reactions from the gang detracted from the precise efficiency at Bethpage Black.

“Obviously as I’m playing my matches, I’m focused on trying to win my point. You know, you see that the other guys are winning their matches or they are doing well but you don’t realize how well they are playing,” McIlroy said.
“The unfortunate thing is people aren’t remembering that and they are remembering the week for the wrong reason. I would like to shift the narrative and focus on how good The European Team was and how proud I was to be part of that team to win an away Ryder Cup.”
