Cake co-founder Greg Brown dies aged 56 as daughter pay | Music News


Greg Brown, the guitarist and songwriter who co-founded American rock band Cake, has handed away at 56. The band announced the heartbreaking news via Instagram, revealing only that he had been battling a “brief illness” without disclosing additional particulars about his trigger of death.

Brown established the alt-funk group in Sacramento back in 1991 with vocalist John McCrea, trumpeter/keyboardist Vince DiFiore, and Frank French. (*56*) Nelson got here aboard in 1992. It comes as news emerged that a nation music singer ended his $200 million profession for emotional causes.

Although Brown departed before the band’s third document dropped, he maintained his connection by contributing materials to their 2011 release Showroom of Compassion.

Beyond his work with Cake, Brown launched the band Deathray in 2000 and put out a solo EP in 2023. He also earned a solo writing credit for the 1996 hit The Distance, which climbed to quantity 4 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart. 

In response to the announcement, Brown’s daughter Adri shared a devastating tribute, merely stating: “The best dad I could’ve asked for,” accompanied by a coronary heart emoji. On her personal Instagram account, she shared a number of images with her father in her tales, captioning the initial image: “I will love and miss you forever.”

RIP.” A 3rd fan shared: “Damn that’s so sad, one of the greatest guitar players in my personal opinion. He will live on in the history he’s made and the musicians he’s inspired. Rest in peace brother.”

A fourth said: “RIP Greg Brown, the founding lead guitarist for Cake. I absolutely loved his playing. His style was always so tasteful and appropriate for the song. He was one of my heroes when I picked up the guitar in the late 90’s.”

A fifth fan expressed: “I heard him and fell in love with his sound and playstyle. One of my 5 guitar idols, he inspired my own playstyle a lot! I love Xan too, but Greg was the best cake guitarist. Rest in peace, you genius! Wish to jam with you in heaven some day!”.
