Trumps fresh attack on NATO ally as he warns | Political News

President Donald Trump again introduced up conversations about the U.S. taking control of Greenland again at the NATO summit in Turkey.

During a bilateral assembly with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Trump criticized his European allies and said, “Greenland […] ought to be managed by the United States, not by Denmark.” He added, “Because Greenland doesn’t help Denmark. Denmark doesn’t spend money to really help Greenland.”

He also claimed that the U.S. was spending a lot of money on Europe. “We could remove all of our soldiers out of Europe, because as you probably noticed, Europe’s a very different place than it was 20 years ago, a lot different, much different, and they better be careful with immigration and energy.”

He continued, “If they’re not careful with those two things, you’re not going to have a Europe anymore.”

During the same meeting, Trump also reopened the possibility of the United States selling F-35 jets to Turkey, something that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has openly objected to.

While announcing plans to lift sanctions on Turkey, Trump said, “It’s something certainly we would consider. It’s a great plane. It’s the best, apparently the best plane by far. And it’s certainly something we will consider.”

The United States’ decision to supply F-35 jets to Turkey will negatively impact Israel, who has been one of the U.S.’ allies in the war in Iran. Netanyahu voiced his objection against the possible deal and told Fox and Friends that Erdoğan “calls openly for the annihilation of Israel,” and overtly accuses the nation of committing genocide in Gaza.

The announcement from Trump got here after a long-term ban on Turkey for the F-35 jets, imposed in 2019 after it purchased Russian-made S-400 missile defence systems.

While criticizing his allies in Europe for not serving to the U.S. with the conflict in Iran, Trump said, “Italy turned us down, and Germany turned us down, and France turned us down.” Trump has, in the past, berated his European counterparts multiple times for their lack of willingness to participate in the Iran war. Much of his criticism has been focused on United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who had said this is “not our conflict”.

Trump also praised Turkey for not getting involved the Iran war. “They could have gotten into the fight,” he said, “maybe they didn’t do that because of me.”

During the summit, Trump addressed a spat with Italian Prime Minister Girogia Meloni, who said the president falsely claimed that she “begged” him for a picture at the G7 Summit. Meloni hit back and said the claim was “made up.”

Now, the president is praising Meloni again. “I think she’s a nice person actually,” Trump said. She made “a mistake” by not directing Italy to back the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, he said. But, he added: “I didn’t put a heavy press on her.”
