Irans Revolutionary Guard Wrote to American | Political News
By Aaron Withe
Recently, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps did one thing uncommon for a terrorist-designated navy drive. It wrote a letter to American voters.
The 25-page doc, launched weeks before the midterms, urges Americans to “stop their government.” It calls the White House a “factory of lies” and helpfully explains that “Death to America” is actually just a prayer against the “ruling elite” in Washington.
Its phrases for peace are simple: End support to Israel, close American bases overseas, and stop combating Iran.
Most Americans will rightly ignore it. Teachers who pay union dues may need to read it anyway, because a good deal of it can sound acquainted, and they’ve been footing the invoice for those components.
In July, the American Federation of Teachers, led by Randi Weingarten, adopted a decision demanding “an immediate end to the war with Iran” and calling on the U.S. and Israel to halt navy operations against the Islamic Republic.
At the same conference, delegates handed a separate decision blaming Israel for wage issues among lecturers in Palestinian Authority territory.
In March, the Chicago Teachers Union sponsored a “Hands Off Iran & Lebanon” protest alongside socialist and Islamist teams. Signs at the rally denounced the “US Israeli war machine.”
Even at the National Education Association’s meeting this summer season, a proposal demanding an end to the Iran warfare and withdrawal of U.S. forces reached the ground before delegates declined to take it up.
Put the IRGC’s calls for next to these resolutions, and it’s laborious to inform where Tehran’s speaking factors end and the union’s start.
Americans can disagree about this warfare, and loads do. Opposing it isn’t the issue. But a union exists to cut price over wages, hours, and working situations, and lecturers union leaders are spending their members’ dues on foreign-policy positions that observe a hostile regime’s calls for.
Ask whose pursuits that serves. It isn’t the instructor paying for it.
The same authorities now lecturing Americans about democracy has spent this yr crushing its own lecturers. Human rights displays report that at least 60 Iranian lecturers and union activists have been arrested, prosecuted or imprisoned since January.
Just last month, two members of a local lecturers’ affiliation have been arrested while touring. Iran’s impartial lecturers’ unions are combating for honest pay and free expression, and the regime treats them as national security threats.
If American union leaders cared about lecturers first, that’s where their solidarity would go. Instead, their resolutions echo the regime doing the jailing.
Across the nation, union leaders who once fought over class sizes and pension formulation now pour their power into Gaza resolutions, protest sponsorships and campaigns that don’t have anything to do with the classroom.
Meanwhile, studying and math scores right here at home keep falling.
Barry Blisten noticed it up close. He teaches in Los Angeles and paid dues to United Teachers Los Angeles for years before leaving over the union’s open hostility toward Jews and Israel.
His grandparents survived the Holocaust. Even after he give up, California law still names UTLA as his exclusive consultant, so he and six other Jewish lecturers sued.
That case is now before the ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Before the next dues deduction, every instructor ought to ask: “Do I share the values of the IRGC?”
Because my union’s management is doing a superb job of sounding prefer it does.
The IRGC thinks American voters will be talked into doing its bidding. It’s value asking why so many union leaders already sound satisfied. Teachers like Barry seen.
