A Big Trump Court Win, Some Sound Shutdown

Welcome to the PurpleState Weekly Briefing — where we take a fast look at the week’s most seen tales in case you missed any of them. What do you suppose caught people’s consideration in this latest whirlwind week? #1 – Whoa: 2nd Circuit Issues Stunning Decision on Trump’s NY Criminal Case — by Susie Moore

But a humorous factor occurred on the way in which to the presidency…The Supreme Court issued a ruling on presidential immunity that had far-reaching implications.

Trump had initially tried to take away the case from state court to federal court, which effort was shot down. But after the Supreme Court issued its ruling in Trump v. United States in July of 2024, Trump renewed his efforts to take away the case to federal court, asserting that the Supreme Court’s intervening resolution rendered the State of New York’s prosecution one “relating to” his official acts as president, such that the case was now detachable and established “good cause” for his premature submitting. 

U.S. District Court Judge Alvin Hellerstein shot down that renewed effort in September 2024, and Trump again appealed to the 2nd Circuit, which heard oral argument on the matter in June of 2025. On Thursday, they issued their ruling, figuring out that the district court failed to correctly contemplate the renewed movement.

#2 – Ted Cruz Has a Good Guess As to When the Schumer Shutdown Is Likely to End, and Why — by Nick Arama

As with many issues with Democrats, this may backfire on them. 

It says one thing about Democrats, too, if this is their motivation – that they’re more involved about their own energy than they’re about how such political video games would have an effect on the people who have not gotten paid, the people on SNAP, the people who could in any other case be damage by the shutdown, and the dangerous results on the financial system. 

It’s utterly plausible, given what we have now seen from Democrats.

#3 – At Least 200 Terrorists Are Trapped in Tunnels Behind Israeli Lines and Guess Who Wants to Free Them? — by streiff

Quite truthfully, that story could be the most ridiculous Arab navy report since Baghdad Bob reported the destruction of the U.S. Army at Baghdad International Airport. Given that the Israelis did not start a systematic marketing campaign against Hamas tunnels until this spring, the thought that a couple of hundred males lacked the curiosity to either contact pleasant models on the floor, use current phone strains, or merely stroll underground toward pleasant strains is nonsense.

As late as the week after the ceasefire settlement, the terrorists had been still combating Israeli troops underground exhibiting they’d access to satisfactory food, water, and ammuntion, “A detachment of Israeli engineering troops was demolishing tunnels behind the withdrawal line in Gaza last month when Hamas militants sprang from a hidden shaft, fired an antitank missile toward their excavator and killed two soldiers.”

A more believable rationalization for the episode is that Hamas was leaving gunmen behind to emerge and mix in with the returning population. This would rapidly return the Israeli-occupied space to Hamas control. Keeping the tunnels in use would also present a jumping-off level for another October 7-like assault.

#4 – Video Emerges of the Condé Nast Offices ‘Confrontation,’ As Infantile Woke Staff Earned Their Pink Slips — by Brad Slager

So this news popping out of another writer’s workplaces is hardly shocking, and now it will get more illustrative. For causes presumably associated to making a case for their protection, a video of this confrontation in the Condé Nast workplaces has emerged, and it shows all of the dysfunction we have now heard about over the years. We see these staffers behaving like unbearable, entitled scolds who disregard the directives from their boss, behaving like they’re owed some type of viewers. It is bewildering.

The most brutally awkward factor you will see today: Condé Nast staffers confront head of HR Stan Duncan over layoffs exterior his Thirty fourth-floor workplace.

Four of the staff featured in this exclusive video from the confrontation had been then fired for “extreme misconduct.”

What is most shocking is that Duncan didn’t coddle these cranks, one thing that has been seen far too often in these media maelstroms. He directed them correctly to get back to work, and after a time, he took the suitable steps and let go of these demanding brats.

#5 – Let Them Burn It Down — by Eli Shepherd

Say what you need about protests, assume items, and cable-news freakouts. Elections have penalties. Democracy means handing people what they vote for. If Democrats across our cities insist on doubling down on big authorities fixes and cultural priorities that chafe with odd New Yorkers, then possibly the remainder of the nation ought to stop propping up those failing fashions. Let them have their socialist lab. Watch what it does to faculties, budgets, public security, and the city cloth. Then go away. 

This shouldn’t be an invitation to despair. It is an argument for strategic exit. For many years, conservative thinkers have warned that some left-leaning cities are trending toward insurance policies that discourage investment, drive up crime, and hole out middle-class alternative. If those locations need to attempt a full-throated experiment in redistribution and centralized options, allow them to see it to the end.
