ABC viewers ‘deeply saddened’ as David Muir breaks | TV Shows
ABC’s World News Tonight viewers have been left “deeply saddened” after David Muir broke an extraordinarily tragic news story on his show.
This comes days after David halted his show to inform viewers about the passing of a rock music legend.
Delivering the breaking news, David announced there was an “urgent” manhunt underway after the chilling deaths of a couple, set on fire in their own home.”
The man had been permitted into the residence after he asked the pair if he could charge his phone.
Reporting from New York, Aaron Katersky examined the case, explaining that 76-year-old Frank Olton and his 77-year-old spouse, Maureen, had welcomed a stranger into their Queens residence out of kindness. However, they might tragically lose their lives that night, stories the Mirror US.
Described as “the nicest neighbors you possibly can ever ask for,” Frank and Maureen were “terrorized” for five hours by the attacker before Frank was stabbed and bound to a pole in the basement. The 76 year old and his wife were then ignited in different areas of the house.
Security camera footage reveals the suspect in the area on Monday moving “door to door” requesting to charge his phone, with one resident commenting, “Very chilling, it is scary. Some random man strolling down the road setting fire to older people, anyone for that matter.”
Investigators are now examining the scene, searching for evidence. Charred chairs and wreckage could be seen scattered across the lawn as police continued to probe the location.
The NYPD has identified the suspect as 42 year old Jamel McGriff, a man with a reported 30-year criminal history. Currently on parole for robbery, he is considered “armed and harmful”.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch issued a stern warning during a press conference: “For the public, the message is clear: don’t enable anybody you have no idea or who you aren’t anticipating into your home.”
This double murder follows the charging of a suspect in the killing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zartuska, who was fatally stabbed on a train in Charlotte. Decarlos Brown, 34, faces murder charges that could result in the death penalty.
Wrapping up his report, Aaron informed David, “The man suspected of killing the aged couple is also needed for a number of violent robberies. Police say he has a felony report that stretches back 30 years.”
Viewers reacted to the chilling story, with one person commenting, “This news broke my coronary heart and deeply saddened me,” while another added, “They did not deserve this. Poor aged couple. May they relaxation in peace.”
A third viewer expressed their outrage on social media, writing, “Innocent people do not deserve to be victimized like this.”
