However, the dispute has apparently caused distress to Caroline, who rose at 4am daily for years to transport her son to the pool, supporting him on his journey to becoming a triple Olympic champion.

She had developed a close bond with Eirianedd during Adam’s relationship with her, having first met as young adults at Loughborough University.

Caroline’s heartbreak
