Antiques Roadshow guest apologises for ‘almost | UK News


An Antiques Roadshow guest was left with their jaw on the ground after they came upon the true worth of some of her “unusual” objects. 

The beloved BBC show returned to screens on Sunday (January 18) with host Fiona Bruce back at the helm. For this week’s instalment, the programme paid a go to to Cromford Mills in Derbyshire.

Plenty of members of the public had been fast to show off their prized possessions to be valued by the programme’s specialists. But issues took a dramatic flip when one guest introduced in her “unusual” assortment of objects.

Speaking to skilled Joanna Hardy, the guest confirmed off her assortment of gold and silver jewelry items, including a bracelet and a brooch. 

An impressed Joanna said: “My goodness. My heart jumped when I saw these pieces.” The guest revealed she purchased the first piece of jewelry 35 years in the past, admitting: “I just thought it was diamantes and posh costume jewellery.”

The items of jewelry also had a title inscribed on them which was George Weil, a sculptor, according to skilled Joanna. The guest admitted: “They’re just so unusual.”

Joanna added: “They’re so against the grain of what people would normally feel comfortable in wearing.” She then revealed the items had been 18-carat gold and platinum. 

The guest admitted that she paid “quite a lot” for the objects altogether, around £1,500 – but her mouth dropped when she came upon the valuation. Talking about one of the objects, Joanna said: “Well I think today they would be around £15,000.”

The guest said: “Oh never,” as her mouth dropped and the group gasped. She then quipped: “Sorry I nearly swore” before rapidly overlaying her mouth and wanting away in shock. 

She continued: “Really!? My goodness me.” Talking about each individual item, Joanna said: “You’ve got this brooch here, that’s going to be between £5,000 and £7,000,” as the guest replied: “Never!”

The skilled then shared that another brooch would fetch for £3,000 and £5,000. The guest declared: “I just can’t believe it.” And finally, Joanna said the “lovely” ring would get £2,500, making the full quantity for the gathering an eye-watering £25,000.
