Captivating thriller series on Netflix has fans | UK News

A critically-acclaimed psychological thriller series is hailed by fans as “captivating” – and they’re determined for a new season. The OA focuses on the story of Prairie Johnson (performed by Brit Marling), a Michigan lady who returns home to her adoptive household seven years after she vanished without a hint.

Her dad and mom are surprised to uncover that Prairie is now ready to see, having been blind before her disappearance. She also has troubling scars on her back, and it regularly turns into clear that one thing unfathomably unusual occurred to her. Prairie refers to herself as “the OA” and refuses to inform the authorities what occurred to her. Her odd behaviour begins to fear her dad and mom, who grow more and more involved about her mental state.

Prairie meets a group of high faculty college students and their instructor and confides in them about some of her experiences, and makes an extraordinary request – for them to help deliver back other lacking people by passing into another dimension.

Created and executive-produced by Zal Batmanglij and Marling, the movie’s extraordinary twists and turns garnered a large and devoted fanbase.

However, the series was cancelled by Netflix after its second season (launched in 2019), leaving the story on a major cliffhanger, and little is thought about why it was axed.

Cindy Holland, Netflix‘s head of authentic content, said at the time: “We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerising chapters of The OA.

“We look ahead to working with them again in the future, in this and maybe many other dimensions.”

Fans have taken to IMDb to bathe the series with reward, with one saying it “mustn’t have been cancelled!!”.

“The music, suspense, drama, thriller, and horror of this show was enough to make me so invested in it and care for every character (besides the unhealthy ones who are in it for their own gain),” they wrote. “Emotional and extraordinarily compelling, particularly the first season. Brit Marling shined splendidly.”

Another urged Netflix to greenlight a third season, writing: “Great show. Very good storyline and appearing. Unfortunately Netflix canceled this series without a correct ending. Frustrating! Why. I ponder. Why cancel a series with such good scores.”

A third called it a “mesmerising watch”, saying: “Absolutely stunning story telling, music and cinematography. I can not inform you how many instances I stayed up at night time considering about the that means of the themes that are in this series.

“It’s enchantingly emotional and I have never seen anything like it before. A trip for the senses and the soul.”

A fourth called The OA a “delightfully odd TV series — a show that is built for binge-watching”.

The series options some distressing scenes, including depictions of drowning and near-death experiences, and offers with suicide and self-harm, so view discretion is suggested.

Series one and two of The OA are streaming on Netflix now.
