Whoopi Goldberg ‘burst into tears’ over Michael B. | TV Shows
During the latest episode of The View, co-host Whoopi Goldberg confessed that she obtained overwhelmed with emotion during the 98th Academy Awards, particularly when Michael B. Jordan received Best Actor.
As the panel was discussing the 2026 Oscar awards during their March 16 episode, Whoopi kicked off the dialog by saying, “I don’t generally do this, but I have to. Congratulations, Michael B. Jordan. I knew you could do it.”
“I burst into tears,” she said, as Sunny Hostin requested, “Did you really?” Whoopi once again reiterated that she “burst into tears,” as Michael got awarded with the high honor. “You know, he’s such a good person, but he is a fine actor, and for him to play two roles,” Whoopi said.
Whoopi said, “I don’t know where it came from, I just,” before mimicking her own wheeping from the night before. “And to see him with his mom, I was just really really happy.”
As Whoopi gave her peers a chance to discuss the topics, co-host Sara Haines echoed Whoopi’s sentiment, saying that she grew emotional during Michael’s big win. “There were a lot of emotional moments that were beautiful…I love Michael B. Jordan. I love the mom moments,” she added.
Fans watching at home also expressed their feelings from the night prior, with one person saying, “It was a no brainer Michael B. Jordan was gonna win #TheView.”
“My America is @michaelb4jordan winning Best Actor at The #Oscars for #Sinners #TheView,” someone else said, nodding to the political nature of The View.
One more did the same, writing, “It might not be their business, but these days, Hollywood is making a whole lot more sense than anyone in the White House!” One more added, “Michael B Jordan was so GOOD and so gracious!!!”
The 2026 ceremony took place on March 15 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood and honored films released in 2025. The show was hosted by Conan O’Brien.
On top of Sinners, one of the biggest winners of the night was the film One Battle After Another, which took home Best Picture and led the ceremony with six total wins.
The movie’s director, Paul Thomas Anderson, also picked up Best Director, marking his first Oscar victory after many previous nominations.
Michael beat out a competitive field in his category that included Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ethan Hawke. The win marked his first Oscar.
Meanwhile, Jessie Buckley received Best Actress for her function in Hamnet, changing into the first Irish lady to win the award.
