Country music star slams Billboard as AI-generated song | Music News

Country singer Breland criticized Billboard this week after an AI-generated song topped the Country Digital Song Sales chart, calling it a “slap in the face.”

The song, Walk My Walk, credited to an AI Instagram account called Breaking Rust, surged to No. 1.

The project’s Instagram account options an AI-generated image of a bearded man in a cowboy hat and is reportedly linked to a man named Aubierre Rivaldo Taylor. Taylor is also behind Defbeatsai, another AI nation account. This follows pictures of Elon Musk ‘without hair transplants’ going viral.

“It feels like a slap in the face as an actual creative who has sacrificed a lot to do this,” Breland told the Daily Mail.

“To see ‘artists’ that aren’t even real people, that don’t have thoughts, experiences, human emotions, get the recognition humans deserve, it’s insulting.”

Breaking Rust has launched a number of songs from an EP titled Resilient.

Its TikTookay account has drawn over 183,000 followers. Despite the immense quantity of hype, little is understood about Taylor or the manufacturing behind the project.

Breland said watching an AI-generated song attain No. 1 stings after years of working exhausting in the music industry.

“When I started, I wasn’t making any money,” he said.

“I was giving voice lessons, writing songs for independent artists for a couple hundred dollars a piece. That was all building blocks.”

He also warned about how AI would possibly have an effect on future selections in radio airplay and label investments.
