President Trump announced Monday that he will signal an government order this week to stop state laws on artificial intelligence, making the nation abide by “one rule.” 

The president took to Truth Social to make the announcement, arguing that he will search to stop all states from having different legal guidelines and laws on AI, which he believes would lead to the failure of U.S. dominance on the software.

“There must be only One Rulebook if we are going to continue to lead in AI. We are beating ALL COUNTRIES at this point in the race, but that won’t last long if we are going to have 50 States, many of them bad actors, involved in RULES and the APPROVAL PROCESS,” the president wrote.

“THERE CAN BE NO DOUBT ABOUT THIS! AI WILL BE DESTROYED IN ITS INFANCY! I will be doing ONE RULE Executive Order this week. You can’t expect a company to get 50 Approvals every time they want to do something. THAT WILL NEVER WORK!” He added.

The president didn’t present particulars as to what the manager order would entail. However, a draft of the manager order reported on last month would permit the Department of Justice to sue states over AI laws it deems unconstitutional, as properly as threaten funding cuts to those states.

The reported draft adopted a comparable rhetoric to that of Trump’s post, arguing that regulation may stall innovation and U.S. dominance on the software.

The draft reads that it was designed to “enhance America’s global AI dominance through a minimally burdensome, uniform national policy framework for AI.”

White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett confirmed the draft on Monday during an interview on CNBC.

“There are some states that want to regulate these companies within an inch of their lives,” Hassett said. “This executive order that he’s promised to come out is going to make it clear that there’s one set of rules for American companies in the U.S.”

Big Tech firms such as ChatGPT maker OpenAI, Google and Meta are anticipated to help the manager order, as they’ve beforehand called for national AI requirements, citing that laws suppress innovation.

Trump has persistently labored to set up the U.S. as the frontrunner in the race to develop and dominate AI applied sciences. According to Stanford University’s AI Index Report, in 2024 alone, firms globally invested $37 billion in personal AI infrastructure.
