“He was annoying the sh*t out of me because he was calling out welterweights, middleweights, gentle heavyweights, but he wasn’t preventing anybody. But there was never a stage I went, ‘Ah, this man is overrated.’ No. He is as good as people assume. I believe he is as good as people assume. I just assume I’m a lot better than people assume.”

Du Plessis doesn’t just plan on winning when the two meet inside the octagon, he expects to ‘break’ Chimaev.
“I believe he is going to come in there more ready than ever. I do know that feeling of preventing for your first title. I do know he is going to come in there ready. I’ve no doubt. And like I said, he’s a particular fighter. He’s extremely good,” Du Plessis said.
“I am unable to wait. This win for me goes to be – This goes to be historical past. I’m going on the market and I’m going to shock the world once again like every other time,” continued the champion. “You’re going to see the ‘boogeyman,’ you are going to see him break. You’re going to see him break in there and then understand there’s only one boogeyman, and that’s me. In the middleweight division, there might be only one boogeyman, and that can be me.”
