Move over, Manhattan — the hottest job markets could also be just a prepare journey (or tank of fuel) away.
A new LinkedIn research has topped America’s “Cities on the Rise” for jobs and expertise — and some of the winners are nearer to Times Square than Times Square is to inexpensive rent.
While Grand Rapids, Michigan, took the top spot thanks to its growing tech scene and insurance coverage growth, the real eyebrow-raiser for New Yorkers is Albany — the Empire State’s own capital — touchdown at No. 4.
Yes, Albany. Once better recognized for politics and potholes than paychecks, the upstate hub — just a little under a 3-hour drive from NYC — is now a rising star in high-tech jobs and semiconductor research.
Albany got here in at No. 4 on the listing thanks to its growth in high-tech and chip research jobs.

The University at Albany pumps more than $1 billion into the local economic system, with top employers like Regeneron and Albany Medical Center drawing expertise — and paychecks averaging almost $72,000.
Median home listings hover around $604,000, making it pricier than many upstate friends but still a discount in contrast to NYC.
But right here’s the kicker — Albany didn’t even nab the highest-ranking spot for a close by market. That honor goes to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, which someway beat it at No. 3.
Pennsylvania’s capital — about three hours from Midtown — scored high thanks to its low price of residing, healthcare growth, and a tourism increase.
With median home listings around $431,000 and an average income of $64,000, Harrisburg is attracting retirees and younger professionals alike.
Boise, Idaho, claimed No. 2 for its booming tech industry and mountain-town lifestyle, while Milwaukee, Wisconsin, rounded out the top 5, buoyed by tech jobs and a surging tourism scene.

LinkedIn says the rating was based on hiring trends, job postings and expertise migration — primarily, where Americans are packing up and transferring for better profession prospects without needing to promote a kidney for rent.
The full top 25 listing exhibits that the motion is more and more in mid-sized metros — from semiconductor-fueled Sacramento to biotech-booming Raleigh-Durham — not just in coastal megacities.

And if neither capital metropolis strikes your fancy, there’s always Long Island, where another group just nabbed bragging rights of its own.

Looks like the street to the good life would possibly just run through the capital — or a Long Island cul-de-sac.
