Fox News guest says Stephen Colbert wont last 10 | TV Shows

The hosts of the ‘Ruthless’ Podcast, Michael Duncan and John Ashbrook, appeared on America’s Newsroom on Tuesday and discussed the future of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which is slated to end next May.

In a recent episode, the comedian joked, “Now for the next 10 months, the gloves are off. I can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump, starting right now,” before turning to a different camera and stating, “I don’t care for him.”

Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer asked the media personalities for their opinion on the late-night host’s fate. Michael believes the host’s days are numbered and that he won’t last until May.

Stephen announced the show was being cancelled during last Thursday’s show, revealing to the studio audience and viewers at home, “Before we start the show, I want to let you know something I found out just last night. Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending ‘The Late Show’ in May.”

According to the network, the cancellation is purely for “financial reasons” and has nothing to do with the comedian’s criticism of Trump or Paramount Global. The network is in the middle of a merger with Skydance Media after settling a lawsuit with the President for $16 million.

John’s take on the cancellation had more to do with the content of the show. “The idea that somebody is, like, stepping on his free speech because they’re not going to give him a hundred million dollar budget and a 200-person staff to make terrible jokes on television that nobody watches – and yet he’s still going to be on TV for ten more months – the ‘free speech’ argument is ridiculous. The left has been making it over and over and over again,” he said.

“The problem for Colbert is that he has gotten too hard-pressed with his jokes. All of his jokes. All of his preaching every night – it’s a sermon. People want to turn on and laugh like they do when they watch Gutfeld, but they don’t want to turn on their TV and get the left-wing sermon,” the podcaster concluded.

Michael put it bluntly, “Well, I would say if he’s planning to take the gloves off and this is going to be Stephen Colbert unvarnished, I don’t think he’s going to last the ten months,” to which Bill responded excitedly, “Oh! That’s a hot take, I like that. That would be very intriguing.”

DON’T MISS…

The Late Show’s cancellation comes just a few days after the host criticized CBS’s multi-million dollar settlement over the editing of a 60 Minutes interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris leading up to the 2024 election. CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global, needs federal approval for its merger with Skydance Media to be finalized.

“I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles. It’s called a big fat bribe,” the host said during the July 14 episode. “Because this all comes as Paramount’s owners are trying to get the Trump administration to approve the sale of our network to a new owner, Skydance.”

Despite speculation that the firing was in retaliation for his comments, the network insists that it is purely a “financial” decision and not “related in any way to the show’s performance, content, or other matters happening at Paramount”
