GWN was halted for a bombshell alert on Donald Trump’s health after the US president’s face appeared to “droop” during a live broadcast from the Oval Office earlier this week. Anchor Jake Tapper was talking to Dr Jonathan Reiner via video hyperlink live on the show when he confronted him about the “worrying” symptoms Trump has been displaying.
Tapper said: “Earlier today, and this is not the first time this has happened, the president appeared to be struggling to keep his eyes open during a public White House event in the Oval Office earlier today. We’re showing the video right now – I don’t know if that worries you, what’s your take on that? What is that?”
Dr Reiner replied: “He’s done this several times now in the last few weeks, he’s fallen asleep in a crowded Oval Office and he’s also fallen asleep at cabinet meetings with people talking directly to him. That’s what we call increased daytime somnolence.
“There are a lot of things that can do that – sometimes people with sleep apnoea, people who wake up many times during the night and don’t get restorative sleep have that. That’s treated, typically, with CPAP masks. We’ve never been told the president has sleep apnoea,” he clarified.
Reiner went on: “But it’s jarring to see the president go from basically asleep in the Oval Office to really this rapid-fire pace during a 30-minute speech that he basically gave in 18 minutes.
“What I said last night is, no-one should be happy to see that. Certainly his supporters shouldn’t have been happy to see him so loud and almost out of control, and his detractors should not be happy to see it. The president of the United States should be well, but there have been a lot of health issues.
“He has the chronic bruise, he had swollen ankles, he’s had these mysterious scans, we mentioned the daytime somnolence. I think all of this raises realistic concerns about the health of the president and it would be great if the White House was a little bit more forthcoming about that.”
Reiner added: “I can’t be the only person who had concerns after watching him last night,” as Tapper reassured him: “You weren’t.”
