Home and Away star dies suddenly as cast pay tribute | UK News

A beloved Home and Away star has died “suddenly”, with tributes flooding in. Buddy, who was the lovely Boxer canine who starred as Justin Morgan’s pooch on the Aussie cleaning soap from 2016 until 2019, died final weekend, with his proprietor Shelley confirming the unhappy information.

She wrote on social media: “I have lost my Buddy. We did so many fun things together over the years. His time on Home and Away was definitely the highlight for him and me. He loved going (on set) more than anything. We had a final trip to the beach planned but he just didn’t make it. He left peacefully at home in his bed while I held him. I have lost a big piece of my heart.”

James Stewart, who performed Justin on the cleaning soap from 2016, was one of the first to pay tributes to his late co-star, writing: “RIP beautiful Buddy. You were my sidekick in so many scenes… an incredible scene partner. Always knew your lines… always hit your mark… and you could sniff our chicken wherever it was! I love ya mate.”

Sophie Dillman, who performed Ziggy Astoni on the cleaning soap for 559 episodes, wrote: “Sending you so much love. The goodest boy ever.” While Irene Roberts star Lynne McGranger penned: “Oh I am so sorry to read this. Beautiful Buddy.”

Tori Morgan star Penny McNamee echoed: “Beautiful Buddy, such a huge part of our Morgan family. Thank you for sharing him with us, Shelley xx.”

The official Home and Away Instagram account even chimed in: “Oh no. We are so sorry for your loss. He was our favourite cast member.”

One upset fan penned: “He was the best thing in Home and Away for many years. By far the best actor. An amazing dog, may he rest in peace and enjoy his time over the rainbow bridge.”

Buddy isn’t the only pooch to have starred in Home and Away. Summer Bay was home to Eric, a Jack Russell, in 1988 before the character was poisoned and sadly had to be put down. Dag Dog was the Fletcher household pet canine in the early Nineties – and even made it to the 1991 opening credit of the show.
