Iraqi Pro-Ayatollah Protesters Storm Baghdad Green | Political News

Hundreds of Iraqis tried to storm Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, where the US embassy is positioned, after the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, an AFP journalist experiences.

“Their attempts had been thwarted so far, but they keep trying,” a security source tells AFP.

AFP’s journalist says protesters, some holding flags of pro-Iran armed teams, threw stones at security forces, who responded with tear fuel.

Protesters chanted “Death to America! Death to Israel!” at the consulate, where reporters heard gunfire and noticed tear fuel fired in surrounding streets.
