Iraqi Pro-Ayatollah Protesters Storm Baghdad Green

Following the continued Operation Epic Fury airstrikes by U.S. and Israeli forces, which took out Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a vast swath of senior leaders, pro-regime protests have damaged out in scorching spots around the world. One of those locations is Baghdad, Iraq, where violent demonstrators tried to get to the United States embassy on Sunday:

Hundreds of Iraqis tried to storm Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, where the US embassy is positioned, after the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, an AFP journalist experiences.

“Their attempts had been thwarted so far, but they keep trying,” a security source tells AFP.

AFP’s journalist says protesters, some holding flags of pro-Iran armed teams, threw stones at security forces, who responded with tear fuel.

While exiled Iranians in locations like Paris and Los Angeles took to the streets to rejoice the death of Khamenei, it’s a different temper in Pakistan and Iraq, which have the world’s largest Shi’ite Muslim populations after Iran.

As RedState’s Bonchie reported, there was bloodshed in Pakistan, where at least 23 protesters died, including 10 who have been shot by U.S. Marines and Pakistani security forces as they tried to breach the U.S. consulate in Karachi.

Protesters chanted “Death to America! Death to Israel!” at the consulate, where reporters heard gunfire and noticed tear fuel fired in surrounding streets.

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad issued a assertion Sunday warning people to keep indoors:

Event: The U.S. Mission in Iraq advises U.S. residents to exercise excessive warning, stay calm, restrict their actions, and keep in their residences when crucial. Reports continue of sightings of missiles, drones, or projectiles in Iraqi airspace. Anti-U.S. demonstrations are going down on the southern bank of the July 14 Bridge in Baghdad, in addition to calls to protest in varied elements of Iraq.
