The casting for the forthcoming Beatles biopic has sparked a buzz, but not all reactions are constructive.

While many are thrilled about the project, some, including John Lennon’s half-sister, Julia Baird, are much less than happy with the casting selections, particularly Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney.

Slated for an April 2028 release, the biopics will function Mescal as McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.

However, not everyone seems to be satisfied by the casting. Some followers have famous that the actors do not bear as a lot resemblance to the Beatles members as they’d hoped.

Irish star Paul Mescal is acknowledged for his breakout function as Connell Waldron in Normal People, which earned him an Emmy nomination.

Adding to the criticism, someone else added: “This solid is so random, undoubtedly primarily based on fame and clout not accuracy. ” Another unhappy critic noted, “the best way none of these people resemble the beatles…. will probably be a flop.”

Amidst ongoing fan outrage over the casting selections, with some even branding them “dirty,” movie knowledgeable and Critics’ Choice member/voter Sean Boelman shared his insights with Express US on the likelihood of altering the lineup now and the potential influence of the backlash on the movies’ success.

Boelman remarked: “Sam Mendes’s four-part Beatles biopic has already been the subject of backlash due to its casting. Fans have criticized the films for casting popular actors rather than people who they think might be ‘better suited’ for the roles.”

Boelman identified that it is probably too late to make any adjustments to the casting, noting that contracts are in place and manufacturing is about to start on this important project.

The TV and movie critic also talked about that many biopics have confronted extreme public criticism over controversial casting selections in the previous.

He clarified: “Don’t forget: plenty of other musical biopic castings have been controversial in the past and went on to have great success and acclaim. For example, Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek was not a popular choice to play Queen icon Freddie Mercury at first, but Malek won an Oscar for the role, and the film was a smash box office hit.”

Boelman is not sweating over how Mendes’ Beatles biopics’ casting will have an effect on their efficiency once they hit cinemas.

He elaborated: “The truth is this controversy probably won’t affect the success of these films in the slightest. Sean Ono Lennon has already spoken up in support of Harris Dickinson’s casting as his father, John Lennon.

“And, frankly, some of the best biopic performances are by actors who do not even seem like their subject – just look at Michael Fassbender in Steve Jobs or Denzel Washington in Malcolm X.

“Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, and Joseph Quinn are currently riding high in popularity. With three years to go until the biopics release, their fame and respect in the industry are only set to increase, making the current backlash likely to subside as their casting choices gradually earn more acceptance.”
