Justin Thomas last displayed his {golfing} prowess at the Ryder Cup in New York and will not be making a comeback anytime soon, with the skilled golfer revealing particulars about his current back operation.

Thomas went under the knife for microdiscectomy surgery last month due to a persistent disc issue, and has already confirmed he’ll sit out the start of the 2026 PGA Tour season as a consequence.

“Life update – I’ve had some nagging hip pain for a handful of months and after some time off and worsening symptoms, an MRI showed I had a disc problem that needed to be treated,” Thomas posted on Instagram.

“My next few weeks will be a lot of resting before the rehab process begins. I have a great team behind me who I fully trust to get me back to a better place than I was before!”.

“While I will miss some events in the beginning of 2026, I want to be very smart and patient in letting my disc fully heal so it isn’t an issue again.”

“I’m very lucky that the game of golf allows us to play at a high level for a long time, and that’s what I plan on doing.”

Thomas later appeared on the No Laying Up Podcast, discussing what his recovery has been like following the process.

“I’ll probably miss a couple of events in ’26,” he revealed.

“It’s so weird. I walk completely fine. I feel like I could go walk as much as I possibly want right now, but I can’t do anything.

“So the weirdest half is just not doing something because I’m not supposed to, not because I bodily cannot.

“I didn’t want to just get an injection and basically bandaid it to mask the pain when in reality the issue was probably still going to be there, at least as far along as I had it from the sound of the doctors I talked to.

“If I might have perhaps been a month into symptoms, an injection and some time off might have healed it. But feeling this for six to eight months like I had, that had sailed. So yeah, no bending, lifting or twisting, so I’m just there. I am unable to do something.”

The 32-year-old, who sits eighth in the Official World Golf Rankings, claimed victory at the RBC Heritage this season and secured eight top-10 finishes in 2025. He was also set to compete in the Skins Game the day after Thanksgiving and the Hero World Challenge.
