Kerry Washington Says ‘Shadow Force’ Shows Black…
Kerry Washington pulled up to the forty ninth Annual Atlanta Film Festival this weekend just like the true boss she is, entrance and middle, all smiles, and all about that Black excellence.
The Emmy Award-winning queen not only premiered her new action-thriller Shadow Force to a sold-out crowd at the historic Plaza Theatre, but she also walked away with the well-deserved 2025 Ossie Davis Award for Innovation in Filmmaking.
Shadow Force isn’t your average shoot-em-up flick. It’s a daring, badass mix of motion, drama, love, and straight-up survival. Kerry stars as Kyrah Owens, a mom on the run with her estranged husband (performed by Lupin heartthrob Omar Sy) and their son, dodging bullets and betrayal from a shady shadow ops crew that desires them gone.
But don’t get it twisted—this film isn’t just about the chase. It’s about Black love, world connection, and displaying the world that we out right here.
BOSSIP caught up with Kerry herself, and when we requested about how Shadow Force brings one thing new to the desk, she didn’t hesitate:
“One of the issues I’m actually proud of in our movie is that it’s a world movie, proper? Because Black people—we exist all over the planet,” she informed us. “We speak all different languages. So when Omar Sy signed on from Lupin, it was like—oh, this is amazing! Now we can have French in the film, we can have a love that crosses nationalities, crosses boundaries, that crosses languages. Because that’s who we are. That’s the richness of who Black people are all over the world.”

Kerry stated this ain’t Wakanda, it’s actual life, and Kerry’s displaying us that being Black will not be one dimension matches all. It’s world, it’s multilingual, it’s highly effective. And it’s hella attractive when it’s starring Kerry and Omar dodging hazard with the sort of chemistry that may soften metal.

And talking of love, we had to ask her, “Who’s your real-life ride or die?” Kerry didn’t blink and immediately gave us a response.
“My husband,” she stated, grinning like a girl who is aware of she’s bought a good one in Nnamdi Asomugha.
We love a girl who practices what she preaches. Black love on screen, Black love off screen. Period.
The movie also options Mark Strong, Da’Vine Joy Randolph (as the auntie you want you had), and Cliff “Method Man” Smith bringing that additional heat. Whether you’re right here for the stunts, the drama, or just to see Meth in motion (again), this movie is supplying you with causes to show up.
Set your calendars! Shadow Force hits theaters nationwide Mother’s Day Weekend, May 9, 2025. Bring your mama, carry your man, carry your squad.

On Monday, Lionsgate teamed up with Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta for an unique screening of Shadow Force with Kerry, hosted at AMC Madison Yards in East Atlanta.

Guests loved a full of life evening of dialog, laughter, and glam-filled photograph ops as Kerry related with the Housewives, swapping tales about motherhood and reflecting on Black excellence in leisure.

Cast members in attendance included Shamea Morton, Brittany Eady, Angela Oakley, Drew Sidora, Cynthia Bailey, and Kelli Ferrell.
