Major Biopharm Company Plans Massive Expansion | Political News
Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN) is a major participant in biotech and biopharmaceuticals. They’re in the top 20 of biomedical corporations by income, with over $33 billion in income in 2024. Despite California’s more and more hostile work setting, Amgen maintains its main operation at its Thousand Oaks, California headquarters. Amgen is not shy about spreading some money around on politics, supporting largely Democratic candidates and organizations, including Kamala Harris’s presidential bid.
Now, though, in a transfer that’s sure to give California’s impeccably coiffed Governor Gavin Newsom a headache, Amgen is planning a major growth of research amenities at their Thousand Oaks headquarters, and in its press release saying the transfer, Amgen is giving the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the One Big Beautiful Bill (and not directly, President Trump) credit for making the growth sensible. (Emphasis added by writer)
Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN) today announced plans to invest more than $600 million in a new, state-of-the-art middle for science and innovation at its global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California.
The middle is designed to deliver together researchers, engineers and scientists across disciplines to improve collaboration and speed up the invention of next-generation therapeutics for sufferers with the most critical illnesses. The building will function superior automation and digital capabilities, empowering scientists with the instruments and setting needed to drive scientific excellence and developments in biotechnology.
Amgen’s long-standing dedication to U.S. innovation and state-of-the-art operations is mirrored in more than $40 billion invested in manufacturing and research and development since the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017. This investment contains over $5 billion in direct capital expenditures in the U.S. The enactment of pro-growth tax insurance policies in TCJA, prolonged and strengthened by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025, additional facilitates Amgen’s capability to invest domestically in cutting-edge science and manufacturing.
That is, as somebody once said, a big freaking deal. They aren’t hemming and hawing over it, either; construction will start forthwith, and it is not Amgen’s only growth.
Construction is predicted to start in Q3 2025 and create a whole lot of U.S. jobs. Amgen has been headquartered in Thousand Oaks, California, half of the better Los Angeles area, since the company’s founding more than 45 years in the past.
The announcement builds on other latest investments from the company including a $900 million growth of its manufacturing facility in Central Ohio and a $1 billion investment to construct a second manufacturing plant in Holly Springs, North Carolina.
Thousand Oaks is south of Simi Valley on the western end of the Los Angeles metropolitan space. Hopefully, Amgen has averted having a homeless encampment spring up close by, but then, they’re offering jobs, so many of the homeless will possible keep away from the realm.

Trump Administration Quietly Rebrands ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ White House Explains Why
Amgen is a component of a world I moved in for 30 years. They’re one of the giants in an industry that, to be completely candid, all too often helps leftist insurance policies and leftist politicians. (That’s one of the explanations I’m having so a lot more enjoyable doing what I do now.) So it is enjoyable to see them overtly crediting an act that never would have occurred under Democrats for having this alternative. Frankly, Governor Newsom ought to view this as a reward; this growth will deliver jobs to his state, which is fiscally underwater.Â
He’ll never admit, of course, that it was Trump and GOP-led laws that prompted Amgen to make this transfer. We know, of course, and Amgen is aware of, and possibly – just possibly – Amgen’s Board of Directors will start rethinking their political donations.Â
And no, we’re still not drained of successful.
