Maycee Barber details 'medical | MMA News
Maycee Barber was supposed to headline a UFC occasion for the first time final Saturday but did not get to make the stroll to the octagon.
She was scheduled to face fellow Top 5 ranked flyweight contender Erin Blanchfield in the UFC Vegas 107 major occasion but suffered a medical scenario backstage moments before making the stroll out. The bout was abruptly cancelled and Barber was transported to a hospital.
An emotional Barber spoke with ESPM MMA about what transpired backstage final weekend but could not recall every part.
“We’re not entirely sure what happened. Obviously there was a medical emergency. We’re not quite sure exactly what it was, what it is, but there was something that happened. And I don’t exactly remember everything,” Barber mentioned.
“There was an event that happened in the back when I was warming up and the doctor, the commissioners, like everybody saw it. And the commissioners were, I guess they were asking me if I was okay, and I was saying that I was and then they didn’t think that I was.
“They stored asking the coaches and the coaches had been like – Again, I’m not completely sure because it is arduous for me to keep in mind every part that occurred – But from what I used to be instructed the coaches had been like, ‘We’re not fairly sure.’ So they had been making an attempt to determine it out and they ended up all going and getting the medical doctors. Next factor I do know I used to be in the back of the ambulance and being transported to the hospital.”
Barber underwent a litany of tests but still doesn’t have a definitive answer to what happened.
“I’m just actually confused to what precisely occurred medically. I talked Hunter [Campbell] and the UFC and they’re working to get me the best medical doctors potential, the best specialists and making an attempt to get the best solutions that we will,” Barber said.
Barber was so unaware and disoriented that she thought she lost to Blanchfield and had to be told that she didn’t fight.
“I believed I misplaced. I wasn’t fairly sure what was going on. And they had been like, ‘Yeah, you did not battle. You did not battle at all,” she said.
Things took a scary and unexpected turn while Barber was warming up in the back preparing to make her way to the cage. The initial cause for concern came a half hour before she was supposed to walk out.
“I felt great going in. I keep in mind going to the bus. I keep in mind getting to the sector and I keep in mind warming up, beginning the nice and cozy up. I felt good. I used to be assured. I used to be like, you already know what, this is the second. This is when I get to stroll out for my first major occasion. All of these issues and then every part else is sort of a blur,” Barber explained.
“I keep in mind bits and items. I keep in mind Heather [Linden] and Dr. Davidson being up above me, like standing over me. And then I just keep in mind getting in the back of an ambulance.”
