Saturday night time noticed 23-year-old Elvis Smylie emerge from his LIV Golf tour debut in Riyadh $4 million richer after he won LIV Golf Riyadh.

Two people who could have been delighted to see Smylie’s success are his mother and father, Peter and Elizabeth Smylie, who are former tennis gamers. The former even won 4 Grand Slam doubles titles during her profession, including the ladies’s doubles title at Wimbledon in 1985 alongside Kathy Jordan.

She also won three combined doubles titles, profitable the US Open in 1983 and 1990 and Wimbledon in 1991. Her 1983 and 1991 combined doubles titles have been won with John Fitzgerald, while her 1990 US Open win was with Todd Woodbridge, a 22-time Grand Slam doubles champion.

While predominantly a doubles participant, Smylie, who represented Australia at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where she won a bronze medal, did climb to twentieth in the world as a singles participant.

However, while Elizabeth and Peter, who also performed Grand Slam doubles occasions during their careers, ended up enjoying tennis, their son Elvis landed in golf.

The 23-year-old joined LIV Golf last month, lining up alongside compatriots Cam Smith, Lucas Herbert and Marc Leishman as half of Ripper GC. Speaking after his debut win, Smylie admitted his win in Riyadh over Rahm was like a dream come true.

“It’s a dream come true,” Smylie said via Golf Digest. He added: “I really didn’t know what to expect this week. Playing at night is obviously a whole different ballgame out here.

“I wished to come out right here and make a assertion. I wished to show that I’m one of the best out right here, and I really feel like I’ve finished that, and it is only up from right here.”

And prior to his win, he received rave reviews from teammate Cam Smith. “I genuinely assume he may be the best golfer in the world,” said Smith of Smylie.

“He’s bought all the instruments of the commerce. He just wants to keep doing what he is doing and knuckle down. He’s bought the mentality. He confirmed it on the market today. He’s bought the grit. He’s a Queenslander, so that comes with it.”
