Legendary Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell has died.
The iconic musician handed away at 64 years outdated following a “long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex operation,” according to a assertion launched today. The news was shared by Phil Campbell and The B—–d Sons, Phil’s band that includes his sons Todd, (*64*), and Tyla Campbell.
The Grammy-winning musician gained fame for his prolonged tenure as the guitarist of British rock band Motorhead, performing with the band from 1984 until 2015, when the group disbanded following the death of founder Lemmy Kilmister.
The announcement was posted on the band’s Instagram web page, accompanied by a {photograph} of Phil with his spouse Gaynor. It read, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Philip Anthony Campbell, who passed away peacefully last night following a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation.
“Phil was a devoted husband, a fantastic father, and a proud and loving grandfather, recognized affectionately as Bampi. He was deeply cherished by all who knew him and might be missed immensely. His legacy, music and the recollections he created with so many will live on perpetually,” stories the Mirror US.
The assertion ended, “We kindly ask that our household’s privateness is revered during this extremely troublesome time.”
The legendary guitarist’s death comes after Motorhead founder and frontman Lemmy died after battling prostate cancer on December 28, 2015. The next day, drummer Mikey Dee announced the group’s decision to disband, writing, “We won’t be doing any more tours or something. And there won’t be any more data. But the fire survives, and Lemmy lives on in the hearts of everybody.”
After Motorhead break up up, he and his three sons, Todd, (*64*), and Tyla, fashioned the band Phil Campbell and the B—–d Sons and launched two EPs and 4 full-length albums together.
Phil’s solo album, Old Lions Still Roar, was launched in 2019 and featured visitor vocals from fellow rockers Alice Cooper, Dee Snider, Rob Halford, and Benji Webbe.
As a member of Motorhead, Phil was nominated for three Grammys and received Best Metal Performance in 2005.
