MSNBC Anchor breaks down in tears speaking about | TV Shows
An MSNBC anchor broke down in tears during a live broadcast as he and his co-anchors and reporters mentioned the taking pictures of Renee Good in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7.
Good, a 37-year-old mom of three, was shot and killed by an ICE officer in the town as he fired into her car as she pulled away from the scene. She died after a deadly shot to the face.
While the Trump administration has since painted the taking pictures as justified and an act of self-defense, saying Good was committing an act of “domestic terrorism,” despite video surfacing which has many saying the other was true, and she was murdered by the agent.
Now, as they mentioned the scenario on MS NOW, anchor Philip Bump broke down in tears during Chris Jansing’s reporting.
Apologizing, Bump then shared that he couldn’t help but see himself and his household while speaking about the fact that Good was a mom of three younger kids.
“I think all of this can be really personal…look what you did to me Chris, I have a five and a six-year-old,” Bump said as he struggled to regain his composure. “Seeing that image of those stuffed animals in the glove compartment of her car, was really emotional for me.”
“What I take away from this is for me that’s the thing that stands out, that this was a family that could have been like mine,” he said. “And there are a lot of situations, a lot of incidents that involved ICE, involved the government, of course, in the past 13 months, where there is resonance for other families in similar ways.”
“For me, it’s hard to think about that family being affected in this way, and I know that there’s a lot of other people being affected in that way, and I think it’s important for you to remember in which way we respond to these things, because that’s the humanity and that’s I think fundamental to what America is.”
“Understanding that all of us can be in these situations and all of us should be able to avoid them particularly as when they are so unnecessary as the shooting yesterday was.”

Good’s death has sparked protests across the nation, and her household has shared she was “probably terrified” during her confrontation with officers.
“She was extremely compassionate,” her mom, Donna Ganger, told the Minnesota Star Tribune.”She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an superb human being.”
The newspaper also reported she shared two kids with her first husband, who spoke on condition of anonymity and said she was not an activist and was a devoted Christian.
She hosted a podcast with her second husband, Tim Macklin, who died in 2023. They shared a six-year-old son together.
